Rev. Dr. Wycherley Gumbs was born and educated on the island of Anguilla. After teaching in the public schools he candidated for the Methodist Ministry. From 1973 to 1994, he served the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas, and the United Methodist Church, U.S.A. He was appointed the first Principal of the St. Andrew’s High School in Dominica (1979) and he also served as Chairman and General Superintendent of the Leeward Islands District.
Dr. Gumbs completed graduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh and was awarded the Doctorate in Philosophy in 1982. From 1994, he served the Government of the United States Virgin Islands and lectured at the University of the Virgin Islands. His last appointment in the St. Thomas /St. John Circuit was at the Trinity Methodist Church where he served as Pastor. He is presently serving the Anguilla Circuit as Pastor and Superintendent. He is also the Chairman of the Anguilla Christian Council, and Chairman of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School Board.
Dr. Gumbs has written and published over twenty books, commentaries plays and poetry.
He and his wife Stella, are the proud parents of Wycherley Jr., Mark, Elliot and Angela.
