Don Edward Walicek is Associate Professor of English and Linguistics at the University of Puerto Rico’s Río Piedras Campus. He holds a PhD from the University of Puerto Rico and an MA in History and Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin. Walicek has served as Editor of the Caribbean Studies journal Sargasso since 2009. He has written numerous articles, chapters, translations, and reviews as well as columns for the newspaper Claridad. Some of these deal with the culture and history of Anguilla, exploring topics such as the Anguilla Revolution, emancipation, and the history of its languages. He’s also the author of entries for the seven Anguillians included in the Dictionary of Caribbean and Afro-Latin American Biography, which was published by Oxford University Press in 2016. His co-edited volume Guantánamo and American Empire, The Humanities Respond, published by Palgrave Macmillan, will appear later this year.
