Debuting at Lit Fest 2016: Island~ Vignettes from Paradise

Experience the everyday on a Caribbean island paradise… lively island poems, eye-catching illustrations in a grand island read.

Author, Catherne Valente Youngquist, says, “I am excited and honored to debut my newest release Island~ Vignettes from Paradise at the Anguilla Lit Fest 2016 and to be coming home, connecting with friends old and new.

Our family was most fortunate to have a second home on Anguilla for over twenty years. My parents, Candi and Vin Valente, were artists and Belongers, well known in the Anguillian community. Dad, an architect, designed our home in Sandy Hill and helped in the design of the newer Christian Fellowship Church. His portraits of Jerry Gumbs and Ronald Webster hang in the Anguilla Public Library. Mom founded the Sacred Dance Choir of Anguilla, loving every minute as director. As well, she designed resort wear, painted, and worked in copper tooling.

Our wonderful times on the island inspired me to write my picture book The Three Billygoats Gruff and Mean Calypso Joe published by Simon and Schuster. I shall be reading this book for the primary school children at Lit Fest.

Truly Anguilla inspired, my poems and the illustrations by Lee Burkhardt in Island~ Vignettes from Paradise reflect our family’s everyday experiences and observances of island life from: chasing goats in the garden, Jump Up, waiting for Christmas winds done happenin’, limin’, to bringing home a Caribbean sun smile, and more. Amazing times!I am looking forward to seeing everyone at this year’s jollification.”
